Wilfred Patrick Griffin was born May 24, 1928 to Thomas and Mary Griffin in Brocton, Prince Edward Island. He graduated St. Dunstan's in 1946. He worked as a teacher but in 1947 became involved in the potato industry at the age of 19. He started as a business manager for Ronald McKenna and by 1958 became sole proprietor. In 1969 he incorporated his business to W. P. Griffin Incorporated as it is known today.

Wilfred married Mary Ellen (Marie) Gaudet on Nov. 10, 1962. Marie worked in the office from 1967 to 1997.
